The net runs long
A wide, raised reticulum covers almost the full yellow stalk. This is much stronger than a few faint lines near the cap.
One pale yellow bolete stood above the wet leaves, wearing a raised network down almost its entire stalk. That sculpted texture gives the mushroom both its name and its clearest field mark.
First look
The broad raised netting is so strong that the stalk looks woven. Add the pale sulfur cap, yellow pores, sturdy proportions, and hardwood forest setting, and ornate-stalked bolete becomes the clear fit.
Rain made the cap shine in these photographs, but the useful structure is still easy to read. This is a bolete, so the underside is a field of tiny tubes opening as pores, not a set of gills. The yellow pore layer sits above a stalk patterned nearly from top to bottom.
Field marks and community confirmation

The cap is pale sulfur yellow, the pores are yellow to olive-yellow, and the flesh-colored base carries pale yellow mycelium.
The mushroom is sturdy rather than wiry, solitary in hardwood litter, and shows no orange cast or visible blue bruising.
Flaming gold bolete, Aureoboletus auriflammeus, shares the yellow pores and oak-woods setting. It is usually slimmer and more orange-yellow, and a young cap often carries loose yellow powder. Its stalk netting is commonly weaker or concentrated near the top.
Gray bolete, Retiboletus griseus, is a closer relative with a similarly netted stalk. Its cap stays gray to brown rather than yellow, and its flesh is white rather than golden yellow.

Read it from top to bottom
Broadly convex and pale sulfur yellow here. Young caps may be finely velvety, while older caps often become smoother and browner.
Bright yellow when fresh, aging toward orange-yellow or olive-yellow. Each visible opening leads into a short spore-producing tube.
A raised network of ridges. On this species it is broad, yellow, and unusually extensive, which explains the common name.
Pale fungal threads cling to the stalk base and continue into the soil, where the much larger feeding body of the fungus lives.
Ecology
Most of this fungus remains below ground as microscopic threads. Ornate-stalked boletes are ectomycorrhizal with hardwoods, especially oaks. Their hyphae grow around fine root tips and between the outer root cells.
The tree sends sugars made by photosynthesis into the partnership. The fungus extends the root system's reach through soil, helping move water and mineral nutrients toward the tree. The mushroom above ground is a temporary spore-making structure produced by that long-lived partnership.

ornatipes ornate-stemmed
Etymology
The species epithet ornatipes means ornate-stemmed. The common names ornate-stalked bolete and goldstalk keep the same idea in plain English.
The genus name Retiboletus also points to a netted bolete. Here the language matches the photograph unusually well: the stalk really does look ornamented with a raised mesh.
Charles Horton Peck first described the species as Boletus ornatipes in 1878. DNA and pigment chemistry later helped move it into Retiboletus.
